Biography

Helen Smith is happily living with her partner in Darlington, in the North East of England. She is the mother of three grown up boys, a mad dog who thinks it’s human and a scatty cat that believes it’s a dog! "You don’t have to be mad to live in our house." She said, "But it helps!"

Helen began writing poetry at the age of seven and won two badges for her efforts from two different childrens’ programmes that were on TV at that time. She has had many poems published since, in assorted anthologies and magazines, as well the odd article. She is also an avid crafter and card maker, designing and creating her own cards.

Helen finds inspiration from things around her even her handbag and the sausages she bought for lunch (see Handbags at Dawn )! She enjoys writing stuff for children, because she feels children should be encouraged to find the excitement and pleasure of reading and writing. "Words are powerful things;" She remarked "they can make you feel happy, sad or even angry But personally I find pleasure in words; how they sound, what they conjure up in the minds eye and so much more. My favourite word at the moment is logodaedalus, which means 'a person who uses words to their advantage'. I think I do that."

Helen is very excited about having a website. Helen has left this message:
"I hope you enjoy my web page, it has stuff on for all ages. Please leave me your thoughts when you have read my pieces. I write stuff to share, because poetry and stories should be shared."
